Scholarship Master in Economics and Management of Network Industries

  • From November 1st 2013 to January 15th 2014.
  • Students applying without scholarship: To be open in February..

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO START SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

The liberalization and regulation of network industries and infrastructures across the world creates a need for industries and public institutions to hire skilled professionals capable of understanding these processes and participating actively in their management and regulation.

The EMIN Joint Master Programme offers the opportunity to acquire expertise in the management of network industries from a global perspective that covers both economic/regulatory and technological/management issues. In these industries, teaching, training and research are typically carried out solely by focused specialists, which usually results in a skewed perspective. The purpose of this Master is to continue integrating specialists from different backgrounds and nationalities, and to make them interact in an interdisciplinary program so as to address the main problems faced by network industries in the current context of economic crisis and environmental concern. Our master students will learn the relevant engineering, economics, policy and management principles that should guide the functioning of network and infrastructure industries with a special focus on the energy and electrical power sector. Throughout the master, students will apply these skills and knowledge to solve real-life problems, since this course is dedicated to training qualified professionals.

This Master Programme is awarded jointly by some of the most prestigious European universities. First line American and Asian universities and research institutes are also part of the programme consortium.

The EMIN Joint Master Programme was awarded in 2006 the Erasmus Mundus excellence label by the European Commission. This award was renewed for another 5 years in 2010. Therefore, scholarships granted by the European Commission will be available both for EMIN students and visiting professors during the forthcoming years. The Erasmus Mundus excellence label has only been granted so far to 126 Masters and 34 doctorates in all disciplines and Universities across Europe. Comillas also coordinates the Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Strategies (SETS Joint Doctorate).

The Erasmus Mundus programme aims to enhance quality in higher education through scholarships and academic cooperation between Europe and the rest of the world.

Added Value

The EMIN Joint Master Programme has an advantage over existing programmes in the added value stemming from its partners’ joint expertise, the relevance of the subjects addressed, the participation of supporting industries and institutions, and the target of offering a joint degree once legal obstacles and national legislation so allow. All these advantages ensure an impact on European competitiveness in this area, and the development of cutting-edge education and collaboration between the academic and the industrial worlds. This added value of the EMIN Joint Master Programme can be summarized in the following points: international component, renowned partners, interdisciplinary approach, industry connection, experience gained in the management of this programme, and research career opportunities.

scholarship-Masters in Chemical Innovation and Regulation

 Master Course in Chemical Innovation and Regulation – EMMC-ChIR – is a MSc degree for professionals concerned with the safety and regulation of chemical substances.

Chemicals are everywhere, are an essential component of our daily lives and definitively contribute to the well-being and prosperity of our society.

However, some chemicals can severely damage our environment or health and are dangerous if not properly used. A large number of substances have been manufactured and placed on the market in Europe for many years, sometimes in very high amounts, and yet there is insufficient information on the hazards that they pose to human health and the environment.

These are some of the reasons that make a sound chemicals management and regulation so important. Policy frameworks are being implemented around the world and should be in place by year 2020. These frameworks are in accordance with the recommendations of the UN’s Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). Among international regulations such as the US’s Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and Japan’s Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL), the European REACH regulations, implemented in 2007, are the most ambitious. The REACH regulations (EC 1907/2006, REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances) are recognized internationally and have been adopted and adapted by the main trade partners of the EU such as China.

The REACH legislation allows for the gathering scientific information (registration and evaluation) and applying preventive risk management measures (authorization and restriction) of all chemicals manufactured or imported to EU. European manufacturers and importers of chemical substances are required to provide extensive information regarding all potential hazards caused by chemical substances contained in their products. This affects European and non-European companies supplying the European market and it requires an extensive amount of research from public and private research centers in order to assess the toxicity of chemical substances and to design new safer alternatives to their use.

The EMMC ChIR – Erasmus Mundus Master in Chemical Innovation and Regulation – provides professionals with all the tools and knowledge needed from the scientific, the regulatory and the economic point of view to manage the risks of chemicals responsibly and to meet responsibilities over chemical legislation worldwide. As an Erasmus Mundus project, ChIR aims to promote research and collaboration in the EHEA supporting the implementation of chemical safety regulation.

application deadline: 15 Jan

This Erasmus Mundus-recognized Master of Science program prepares you to exploit new technologies to support environmental and societal decision-making affecting the future of our planet.
In 2007, three European universities
• Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU), Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi), Münster, Germany;
• Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Dept. Lenguajes y Sistemas Informaticos (LSI), Castellón, Spain;
• Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação (ISEGI)
joined forces and established the Geospatial Technologies Masters program funded by the European Commission through the program of excellence Erasmus Mundus.

Each year the Master program will enroll up to 32 students. Half students attend their first semester at UJI, half at UNL. The program at UJI stresses the computing aspects of GI such as computer graphics and web services, whereas the program at UNL is more oriented towards the processing and modeling aspects of Geographic information, including topics such as “Remote Sensing” and “Geospatial data mining”. UNL provides a series of courses in data analysis, processing and modeling as well as courses in GIS foundations and applications. Students with different backgrounds can choose the courses that best suite their particular needs and profiles and define a personalized path.

For the second semester, all students attend the courses at WWU. The first module mediates “Fundamentals in GI Science”. The second module “Advanced topics in GI Science” mediates knowledge on ongoing research and research projects. The third module provides additional “Core competences” the students will need for their Master thesis as well as for their future professional careers: “Research methods in GI Science” and “Project management in GI projects”.
The course program prepares the students for their own research in the Master thesis in the third semester at one of the three locations.

The career chances of our degree holders are excellent. Our graduates are now working in Geoscience companies and government agencies, studying in top PhD programs, and teaching in their home countries.

The Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies qualifies for a professional career in the following domains:
• Private sector: GI applications and consulting in the domains of regional planning, landscape planning, financial services industry, energy providing industry, transportation, agriculture and forestry, and retailing/marketing;
• Research: Applied sciences at universities and other research institutions.
• Public sector: GI applications and consulting in local and regional administrations, especially in cadastre and different types of planning (e.g., regional, traffic, ecology).

The Master program addresses holders of a Bachelor degree with a qualification in application areas of Geographic Information, e.g., geography, ecology, urban, regional and environmental planning, logistics/transportation, energy provision, surveying, computer science, agriculture, forestry.
