Scholarships worth 48,000 euros to attend a European joint MSc in Mathematical Engineering.

MathMods is a two-year joint Master of Science (MSc) programme (120 ECTS) between 5 European universities, which aims to provide students with a cross cultural education while they get acquainted with both theory and applications of mathematical modelling in engineering.

Several cholarships are offered by the European Commission to both non- European and European students. These scholarships amount to a maximum of EUR 48,000.00 to cover the two-year expenses and are granted to the most promising applicants.

CONSORTIUM

The MathMods Consortium is coordinated by the

– University of L’Aquila in Italy (UAQ)

and involves other four leading institutions in Europe:

– Autonomous University of Barcelona in Catalonia (UAB),

– Gdansk University of Technology in Poland (GUT),

– University of Hamburg in Germany (UHH),

– University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis in France (UNS).

STUDY PROGRAMME

The MathMods Master’s degree course consists of four semesters. Each semester totals 30 ECTS credits. The mobility scheme involves two different locations at least. The first year is common for all students: this will guarantee an equal knowledge platform for all of them. The second year is divided into five paths, which reflect the partners’ field of excellence.

– First semester: Theory at UAQ, Italy

– Second semester: Numerics at UHH, Germany

– Third+Fourth semester: Applications at UAB / UHH / UAQ / GUT / UNSA

LANGUAGE

The language of the whole course is exclusively English at each of the five universities. Students must also attend (and acquire the relating credits of) a course of basic Italian language (first semester) and German language (second semester). Students will also have the opportunity to attend local language courses during their second year (spent at one of the five partners).

12 fellowships / scholarships for doctoral candidates

These fellowships and scholarships are available from October 1st, 2014, for three years (sub­ject to satisfactory progress reviews after 12 and 24 months).

BAGSS is a multidisciplinary Graduate School funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) as part of the German Excellence Initiative. We are seeking to stimulate and guide cutting-edge doctoral research on some of the most crucial challenges modern know­ledge-based societies are facing. Specialised research agendas have been grouped into four thematic pillars:

  • Pillar 1   Education, personal development and learning from early childhood to adulthood
  • Pillar 2   Education and social inequality across the entire life course
  • Pillar 3   Changes in human capital, labour markets and demographic structures and their
    impact on social inequality in modern societies
  • Pillar 4   Governance, institutional change and political behaviour

Qualification and requirements:

We are inviting applications from highly qualified graduates from the fields of Sociology, Psy­cho­logy, Educational Science, Political Science, Economics, Demography and Statistics. Qua­lified graduates of related subjects with a strong background in the empirical social sciences are also encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the aforementioned subjects or be very close to completion. Successful applicants will be re­quired to take up their residence in Bamberg, a city noted for its very high quality of life as well as great conditions for research and study.

Remuneration for the doctoral fellowships is based on Grade E 13 TV-L (50%) of the German Public Service Salary Scale. There is a teaching obligation of two hours per week for only one semester during the three years. Holders of the doctoral scholarships receive a monthly stipend of 1.365 Euro, plus family allowances and child-care expenses in accordance with the DFG guidelines where applicable.

This Erasmus Mundus-recognized Master of Science program prepares you to exploit new technologies to support environmental and societal decision-making affecting the future of our planet.
In 2007, three European universities
• Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (WWU), Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi), Münster, Germany;
• Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Dept. Lenguajes y Sistemas Informaticos (LSI), Castellón, Spain;
• Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação (ISEGI)
joined forces and established the Geospatial Technologies Masters program funded by the European Commission through the program of excellence Erasmus Mundus.

Each year the Master program will enroll up to 32 students. Half students attend their first semester at UJI, half at UNL. The program at UJI stresses the computing aspects of GI such as computer graphics and web services, whereas the program at UNL is more oriented towards the processing and modeling aspects of Geographic information, including topics such as “Remote Sensing” and “Geospatial data mining”. UNL provides a series of courses in data analysis, processing and modeling as well as courses in GIS foundations and applications. Students with different backgrounds can choose the courses that best suite their particular needs and profiles and define a personalized path.

For the second semester, all students attend the courses at WWU. The first module mediates “Fundamentals in GI Science”. The second module “Advanced topics in GI Science” mediates knowledge on ongoing research and research projects. The third module provides additional “Core competences” the students will need for their Master thesis as well as for their future professional careers: “Research methods in GI Science” and “Project management in GI projects”.
The course program prepares the students for their own research in the Master thesis in the third semester at one of the three locations.

The career chances of our degree holders are excellent. Our graduates are now working in Geoscience companies and government agencies, studying in top PhD programs, and teaching in their home countries.

The Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies qualifies for a professional career in the following domains:
• Private sector: GI applications and consulting in the domains of regional planning, landscape planning, financial services industry, energy providing industry, transportation, agriculture and forestry, and retailing/marketing;
• Research: Applied sciences at universities and other research institutions.
• Public sector: GI applications and consulting in local and regional administrations, especially in cadastre and different types of planning (e.g., regional, traffic, ecology).

The Master program addresses holders of a Bachelor degree with a qualification in application areas of Geographic Information, e.g., geography, ecology, urban, regional and environmental planning, logistics/transportation, energy provision, surveying, computer science, agriculture, forestry.
