The International Giessen Graduate School for the Life Sciences (GGL) of the Faculties of Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Nutritional Sciences, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and the Ph.D. Programme of the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine invite applicants to the

Doctoral Programmes in the Life Sciences.

The Doctoral Programmes consist of a three-year interdisciplinary graduate course curriculum combined with an experimental project leading to a dissertation. Each doctoral researcher will be supervised by two professors from different faculties and will benefit from our Doctoral Researcher Development Programme. Seminars and courses are conducted in English; German language courses are offered for international students.

Depending on the project selected and own qualifications students may receive a scholarship and may be eligible to register for one of the doctoral degrees offered at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (Ph. D., Dr. med., Dr. med. dent., Dr. biol. hom., Dr. med. vet., Dr. biol. anim., Dr. phil., Dr. rer. nat., Dr. agr. and Dr. oec. troph).

Applicants can choose from eight interdisciplinary research sections:
Nutrition and Metabolism;
Infection and Immunity;
Heart, Lung and Blood Vessels; Protein and Nucleic Acid Interactions;
Neurosciences;
Reproduction in Man and Animals;
Stress Resistance and Adaptation;
Molecular Interactions at Natural Interfaces.

A Master´s degree or equivalent is required for admission.

PhD program at IMPRS-ESM International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling

 The International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM), located in Hamburg, Germany, offers fellowships to outstanding students interested in interdisciplinary climate research. Our doctoral candidates contribute to the understanding of the Earth system through the application, evaluation and development of a spectrum of Earth system models at different levels of complexity and at various spatial and temporal scales. Emphasizing the physical system, the School encompasses the broader field of Earth sciences, including economics and social sciences. The IMPRS-ESM strives to attract a diversity of talented men and women from all nationalities to research in the Earth system sciences.The PhD program is open to applicants holding a Master’s degree (with written thesis) or a German ‘Diplom’ in physics, geophysical sciences (incl. meteorology and oceanography), chemistry, ecology, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or economics.

To apply, please register online and subsequently submit all requested application documents via e-mail. Online registration closes August 24, 2013. Application deadline is August 31, 2013. The selection procedure includes an interview (28/29 November 2013). Doctoral candidates receive financial support of about 1,400 Euros/month for a period of three years. There are no tuition fees but a semester fee is charged by the university. Funding will be available starting March 2014.

 The University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers scholarships to international students who wishes to pursue a Masters Degree at the University through the UNIL Master’s Grants.

 Candidates must choose a Master’s programmes from among those offered by the UNIL, except the Master of Medicine, Master of Arts in Public Management and Policy, Master of Arts in Sciences and Practices of Education.  The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme (according to the programme, one-and-a-half years or two years subject to deduction for paid placements or exempt semesters, if any).

 Eligibility:

•  The candidate must be the holder of a degree from a foreign university.

•  The qualification held by the candidate must be deemed equivalent to the UNIL Bachelor’s degree.

The grants are intended more particularly for students who distinguished themselves in their university studies and who have difficulty meeting their financial needs for the duration of the Master’s. It is however necessary that the candidates have sufficient financial means to support themselves during the complementary studies that may be required prior to enroll on the Master’s degree.

 Candidates must complete the “UNIL Master’s Grant” form and submit their application by email to the Office for socio-cultural affairs  by 15 December 2013 at the latest.

Target group:

The scholarships are for international students from developing countries listed on the Master Grants country list (PDF).

 Scholarship value/inclusions:

 The scholarship is in principle paid for the total duration of the studies.  The scholarship consists of an allowance of €1000 per month and the yearly tuition fee with a maximum of 80€. Once you get an intstallation fee of 500€. In case of increased tuition fee for the master’s programme, Ghent University will only reimburse the refundable part. Airline ticket and visa costs are carried by the student.

Degree
Applicants for master’s programmes should already have obtained a bachelor degree when they submit the application.

Nationality
The applicants must come from and should be nationals of one of the developing countries on the Master Grants country list (PDF). Priority, however, will be given to the categories on the country list with the lowest levels of development and income. Priority will also be given to students applying for an ICP-programme whose country is not on the VLIR-country list but on the UGent list.

Language and proficiency
The application is to be made in English. The applicant should have a very good command of the English language. Click here to see the requirements.

Important: You must demonstrate that the university of your studies, your current or future employer has a relation with Ghent University (former or current). For example: staff exchange, research projects, publications, etc.  Your application will not be eligible if you cannot establish any connection with Ghent University.
